Cultural identity is a key factor in mental health. It also has an impact on how you were raised. Being able to identify and connect with cultures is beneficial and can make it easier for people to get to know each other and form new friendships. It helps them to feel better about themselves. It gives you a sense of belonging, which can lead to friendships, connections, and social circles.
My identity: Defining it My dad’s El Salvadoran life is very different than ours today. The U.S. offers more opportunities for education and job opportunities. My parents have taught me how to work hard and to get a job. Because I work hard, my younger siblings see me as a role model.
Sociological Traditions
Cultural patterns “provide an essential set of standards to guide thoughts and actions.” My cultural practice is catholicism. My family and I attend church every Sunday. I was taught honesty is the most important policy. My mom says honesty is the best policy. If someone finds out. Another thing I learned was how to tell right from wrong. My family considers it important to use manners like “Thank you” and “Please”. My parents believe that these are the most important lessons they have learned as a child. They also teach me how to use them.
One tradition we celebrate is the quince. Growing up in El Salvador, my parents played soccer. As a child, I was also a soccer player. But my parents told me that soccer was different here in America. It was played with mixed teams of boys and women. This is because we in America play with the gender that our team members are.
American
Freedom and the freedom to express oneself is the land of many possibilities, hopes, and dreams. Home is where you feel at home. America has independence. This is also known as independence.
Dimensions in Culture
Because I am an individualist, I think I would describe myself as one. I prefer to be independent and not depend on others. However, I believe that you can still trust them when things happen. I remember being supposed to pick my sister up from afterschool. But, since my cousin normally picks her, I trusted her and she ended up picking her up. I prefer someone who does everything by themselves.
Because I love to be happy, indulgence defines me. I give myself rewards for passing tests, staying focused, and doing my homework at night. It is important to me that I give myself happiness and reward myself for accomplishing something.
In-group collaboration means loyalty to a particular group. I feel that I am loyal to my group regardless of what. I love to be on task, and I get things done in group projects. Loyalty, which is the ability to show loyalty and be trustworthy in your work, is one of my most valuable qualities.
Cultural Bias
My mother says that Americans born in America don’t make the most of their opportunities, such as going to school.
She asserts that Central American immigrants take advantage what is available to them. I disagree. It’s something I’ve seen before. Central America natives are said to be more likely to get better education opportunities than those who don’t.
Another cultural bias that I have is my parents believing that all blacks are bad and that thieves steal. But, their opinions are based only on what they see and hear on social media. Because not all people of color are alike, everyone takes different actions.
In summary,
I gained a lot of insight about myself through writing this paper as well as researching Cultural identity. It has changed my perspective on the world and the cultural groups that surround it. I have also learned how they influence and affect me every day. Each person is part and parcel of a certain culture identity even though they may not be aware of it. We must empower the people we belong to, and learn more about the cultures and ideas that might be of interest to our culture today.
